Pentagram was commissioned to design the identity, signage, and wayfinding system for the Wadi Hannifa Sports and Recreation District, situated in the arid Najd region of central Saudi Arabia.
Our objectives for this project were as follows:
• Develop a civic, engaging, and memorable signage program that resonates with the area's unique history and caters to the diverse user groups visiting the district daily.
• Innovatively identify individual project areas and amenities in distinctive and creative ways while ensuring seamless integration with the surrounding environment and site features.
• Create program elements that are both memorable and engaging for users, while reflecting and respecting the historical context of Wadi Hannifah and its neighboring districts.
• Highlight major travel routes to facilitate intuitive orientation and navigation.
• Address the needs of all users with utmost functionality.
• Select materials that are both functional and durable, capable of enduring the environmental conditions.
In the project's initial stages, my responsibilities included conducting research and developing studies on typography, pattern, color, material, and form. The studies below focus on Najdi shapes, as well as graphic and dimensional influences.
